Please pass on this blog address to everyone and anyone you know, so we can make this event bigger and better than ever!

Asha Daya

I am Asha Daya (34)…born and schooled in the Eastern Cape. I originally studied Fine Art (Graphics) at Rhodes University from 1992-1995 (taught by Dominic Thorburn). The work that I produced then was primarily based on issues surrounding identity/masks.I have explored various media including, litho, etching, silkscreening, charcoal/pencil & some painting. Since then my mood has lightened and my colours have brightened, and work that I produced is mainly exploring landscapes and people. My preferred medium of expression is acrylic. I also have ventured into event décor – I paint larger scale backdrops for weddings and smaller functions, on request, and do Henna painting for Indian Weddings, as well as creative parcel wrapping and painting of doorways, etc. as is traditional of Indian weddings….I am hoping to do this on a permanent basis at some stage. I also dabble in photography, beadwork, mosaics and anything creative that takes my fancy at the time. I have been working in Newspapers/Printing and Publishing for the past 10 years….

Ross Chowles

Ross studied (where he didn’t study much) at the revolutionary High School For Art, Ballet and Music in Johannesburg in the 70’s.
The last 30 years, Ross has been making ads during the week and painting on the weekends.
He has no style and is constantly trying something new. Often with disastrous results. Sometimes with pleasant results.

More of our talented artists

LYN HAMMOND

My name is Lyn Hammond. I work in oils, water colours, and mixed media. I studied art at the Michaelis School Of Art in Cape Town, and the Cape Town Art Centre. I have been studying art with Eileen Smithers in Johannesburg for the past 17 years.

JILL WELSH

Jill Welsh started painting at the tender age of who knows when, but loved it straight away. Her first memory of painting anything remotely good was a tiger at age 7. She was so disappointed when years later, after digging out this picture, it was not in the style of photorealism that she was sure it had been… and being a child genius was in fact a figment of her imagination. This did not stop her in her pursuit of the Picasso within, and she is still hunting to this day! From a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama and English, Jill is now producing inserts on a teenage TV show. Her reason for participating in Art with Heart is to know in some small way, the money raised from this art auction is bringing healing to a broken people; bringing nourishment to a country in desperate need and bringing otherwise alienated people together to make it happen. Just the unity in this diverse group of artists coming together, to speak about our love for our neighbours, is a triumph in itself.

COLLETTE CRUYWAGEN

I started to mosaic as a hobby in 2002, since then I have completed a few commissions, sold works at fairs & made friends gifts. I also used to give mosaic courses for beginners over a period of 3 years before life got too busy. Mosaic is still part of my life but other interests have taken over.

MIREE CHATZ

Miree Chatz is a graphic designer but prefers to spend her time in her studio making jewellery for her brand Queen Magpie. Painting is love that is far too seldom visited so Miree grateful for this opportunity to get absorbed into the world of canvas and paint
